Sometimes a particular work of art has a way of making us aware of our own physicality, helping us feel our bodies by giving us new perspective on our relationship to things around us. Larger-than-life sculptures, for example, do this, but so do many other art forms, depending on the intent and success of the artist’s efforts. While it is common that such artworks are large, and presented and experienced outdoors, we are interested in how artwork, regardless of its size, when confined to an exhibition space can still inform or challenge our physical perspective.
MONOLITHIC is a gallery exhibit that displays works of any size, which nevertheless address, explore, or present issues of scale, size, or proportions. This may be through illustrative means, or be by virtue of the work’s own phyicality, dimensions, or other characteristics. Opening Reception is on November 6, 2015 from 6-9 p.m. corresponding with the Walk on Woodburn (WOW) in East Walnut Hills!
