Mychaelyn Michalec: Not to Stifle, but to Clarify Opening Reception

I Don't Want To Fight With You About Poetry. 2023, hand and machine tufted wool on cloth, 68 x 33 in.

Join the Weston Art Gallery for the opening of artist Mychaelyn Michalec’s exhibition, Not to Stifle, but to Clarify.

Using both mechanical and hand tools, Michalec (Dayton, OH) creates large-scale textured wool rugs to address themes of gendered labor, feminism, sexuality, and art history. Textiles are historically a language of creation assigned to women at birth, and she uses these processes as part of a historical continuum of our cultural heritage.

The opening reception for Not to Stifle, but to Clarify will be held on Friday, June 16, 6-8 p.m. and is free and open to the public.

Exhibition tours will be available with our Docentitos youth docents the night of the opening and by request throughout the summer. Contact Vanessa Holmes at vholmes@cincinnatiarts.org for more information.

A Gallery Talk with Mychaelyn Michalec will be held on Wednesday, June 28, at 7 p.m.

The exhibition runs June 16 – August 20, 2023. The Gallery will be closed on Tuesday, July 4.

Exhibition Support: Sara M. and Michelle Vance Waddell
