Kara Güt, Plainchant for Paper Hands, 2022, sculpture, 48 x 48 x 15 in.
The eleven Ohio-based women artists of A New World explore alternative ways of thinking, making, and seeing that challenge dominant systems of navigating the world.
Co-curated by Matt Distel, executive director, and Sso-Rha Kang, curator at the Carnegie Arts Center (Covington, KY), this group exhibition is presented in collaboration with the Ohio Advisory Group of the National Museum of Women in the Arts and the Ohio Arts Council’s Riffe Gallery (Columbus, OH). The eleven Ohio-based women artists of A New World explore alternative ways of thinking, making, and seeing that challenge dominant systems of navigating the world. The resulting new worlds are slight but important interpretations of how the artists navigate their own realities to reimagine our existing world. Participating artists include Kat Burdine (Cleveland, OH), Kara Güt (North Olmsted, OH), Sharon Koelblinger (Kent, OH), Calista Lyon (Columbus, OH), Mychaelyn Michalec (Dayton, OH), Migiwa Orimo (Yellow Springs, OH), Kristina Paabus (Cleveland, OH), Erykah Townsend (Cleveland, OH), Thu Tran (Cleveland, OH), Cathrine Whited (Cincinnati, OH), and Xia Zhang (Cincinnati, OH).
Join us for the Opening Reception: Friday, April 5, 6-8 p.m. and a curator tour on Saturday, April 6, 2 p.m.
Exhibition Co-Sponsor: Sara M. and Michelle Vance Waddell
