In this hands-on workshop, participants will join artist Sarah Rodriguez in collaborative artmaking. Using paper to collage, participants will create imagery that shares memories and stories about their neighborhood.
This 5 month long project will take place in West side neighborhoods that border the city limits including Price Hill, Sedamsville, Sayler Park, Westwood, Riverside, and Delhi Township. Local artists will be partnering with key neighborhood hubs to bring people together for a collaborative community art making project. Using paper collage participants will cut and tear colorful paper to create pictures of their favorite places, people, and memories from that neighborhood. Together they will layer their art together onto a large map-like sheet of paper to represent that neighborhood. Once all the workshops are complete, the artists will combine the individual collages to create a large scale tapestry-like collage that will embody the vibrancy of the West side. The goal of this project is to use art as a tool for creating new avenues for repair and connection across these neighborhoods.
This project is made possible by the ArtsWave Black & Brown Program: Truth & Innovation Grant 2024.
