In this hands-on workshop, participants will join artist Sarah Rodriguez in collaborative art making. Using paper to collage, participants will create imagery that shares memories and stories about their neighborhood.
This art making workshop focuses on sharing stories about Cincinnati’s West side neighborhoods through hands-on art making. The neighborhoods this projects is focusing on include, Price Hill, Westwood, Sedamsville, Delhi Township, Riverside, and Sayler Park. On May 4 this collaborative art project will be hosted at the Cincinnati Recreation Commission, Westwood location in the ground level multipurpose room. Using paper collage participants will cut and tear colorful paper to create pictures of their favorite places, people, and memories from Westwood. Together they will layer their art onto a large map-like sheet of paper to represent that neighborhood. If you live, have lived, or love Westwood join us and share your stories through art!
At the completion of this workshop series all the pieces will be combined to create a large scale tapestry-like collage. The goal of this project is to use art as a tool for creating new avenues of repair and connection; by highlighting and embodying the vibrancy of the West side and bringing the community together.
This project is made possible by the ArtsWave Black & Brown Program: Truth & Innovation Grant 2024.
