On Freedom’s Doorstep: Black History in Cincinnati

Attend On Freedom’s Doorstep: Black History in Cincinnati at Heritage Village Museum on June 9.

Heritage Village Museum and The Voice of Black Cincinnati will host On Freedom’s Doorstep: A Celebration of Cincinnati Black History on June 9 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Heritage Village Museum in Sharon Woods Park. This event celebrates the lives and contributions of Black Cincinnatians from the city’s chartering through the end of World War I.

Sponsors, food trucks, vendors, and volunteers interested in portraying historical figures are asked to email crystal@thevoiceofyourcustomer.com.

Planned activities for On Freedom’s Doorstep: Black History in Cincinnati are as follows:

Interpreters portraying notable Black Cincinnatians during the 1800s and early 1900s
Fine and performing artists
Historical demonstrations
Children’s games and programming
A simulated underground railroad experience and representation of the Black Brigade
Storytelling by local historians
Local Black food and retail vendors

Admission to On Freedom’s Doorstep: Black History in Cincinnati
Admission to On Freedom’s Doorstep: Black History in Cincinnati is $10 per adult, $5 per senior or child ages 4-11, and free for members and children ages 3 and under. SNAP-eligible families are $5 per adult and free for children ages 12 and under with a SNAP card and photo ID.

About Heritage Village Museum
Heritage Village Museum and Educational Center is a picturesque gathering of 13 authentic historical buildings representing various aspects of family life during the 1800s. These buildings include historic homes, a train station, a doctor’s office, a general store, a church, and a schoolhouse.
