From the Artist:
“The Gift of Closed Eyes. What an odd name for a visual arts exhibit!
Please allow me to explain:
My imagination often lights up in the middle of the night. My mind will suddenly pulsate with a rush of colors and patterns that I can’t control nor fully articulate with words. All of this artistic energy is happening while my eyes are closed! Of course, everyone dreams and has an imagination; consequently, this phenomenon is certainly not unique to me; nonetheless, I consider it a beautiful gift. With regards to gifts, my parents taught me ‘it’s better to give than receive.’ Therefore, I feel a sense of obligation, with gratitude, to transfer my inner light show onto canvas.
At risk of sounding careless, I’m not big into artworld formalities, rules, hierarchy, etc. Rather, I’m more interested in putting smiles on faces. This Exhibit is meant to be felt as much as it is seen. In fact, the best way to enjoy my art is to look beyond its surface and emerge yourself into what you feel. Then, take a deep breath, close your eyes and experience your very own internal gift of imagination.”
The Gift of Closed Eyes runs May 3 – 25 in the Westheimer Gallery, open Thursdays and Fridays 3-7PM, Saturdays 10AM – 2PM, or by appointment (e-mail sharonvillecac@gmail.com or call 513-554-1014 to plan your visit).
