The Art of the Empathizer

Gallery talk in conjunction with the opening of the exhibition “Hanging Figures” by Stewart Goldman

Art in response to the Holocaust has featured various perspectives: that of the survivor-artist, the second generation artist, and the empathizer.  This generational approach has allowed the viewer to see how various artists handled the subject matter based on their relationship to the Holocaust.

The talk will explore the various generational responses including this body of work by Stewart Goldman, who has created several cycles of work in response to the Holocaust as an empathizer.  Mr. Goldman will be present to deliver introductory remarks.
