33 West Studios
A multimedia explorative project and exhibition centering the unique experiences of Black motherhood.
Through Her Eyes: Mama Representation is a multimedia explorative project centering the unique experiences of Black motherhood. The collaborative project is a platform for postpartum Black mamas to reclaim their stories and challenge stereotypes and the misogynoir that dominates the current narrative.
This holistic journey of self-expression, discovery, and documentation of growth is led by the talented Christina Garrett of 33 West Studios. The project and exhibition will feature narrative-fine art portraits, community talkbacks, and Co-Lab workshops holding space for Black mamas to rest, relax and repower.
The project was inspired by the power of representation and the need for Black mamas to see themselves represented in a positive light. Garrett believes that the project will help to change the narrative around Black motherhood and provide a space for Black mamas to share their stories and experiences.
Through Her Eyes: Mama Representation is a Through Her Eyes collaboration between Queens Village, 33 West Studios, and the Contemporary Art Center’s Co-LAB program with support from ArtsWave.
