Dancing for Freedom

Dancing for Freedom

Presented by Kennedy Heights Arts Center and Juneteenth Cincinnati, Inc. at Kennedy Heights Arts Center Lindner Annex

Juneteenth Cincinnati presents Voices of Freedom, a month-long visual and performing arts series exploring the promise and reality of “freedom” as experienced by those whose lives and destinies were touched by emancipation.

On Saturday, March 19, join us for a Dancing for Freedom showcasing two unique African-American dance forms performed by local groups.

The evening will features a praise dance performance by the Heavenly Doves and step dance by Metro Cincinnati Dance. Stepping or step-dancing is a form of percussive dance in which the participant's entire body is used as an instrument to produce complex rhythms and sounds through a mixture of footsteps, spoken word, and hand claps.

Following the performance, audience members will have the chance to learn some movements themselves!

This event is made possible by American Rescue Plan funds from the City of Cincinnati, administered through ArtsWave.
