As family and friends gather this holiday season, tune to 91.7 WVXU and 88.5 WMUB for an eclectic line-up of specials created just for the season. Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, Christmas and New Year 2016 all have a special for your listening enjoyment.

Wednesday, November 25  – 1:00 pm

The Science of Gratitude: Narrated by Academy Award-winner Susan Sarandon, this special covers some of the scientific breakthroughs revealing the importance of gratitude, along with personal stories illustrating the benefits and obstacles to feeling truly grateful. Throughout the hour, listeners will gain practical insights into how to cultivate more gratitude in yourself, your kids, your workplace, and beyond.

Thursday, November 26 –  Noon 

Turkey Confidential: Help is on the way for Thanksgiving cooks, kitchen helpers and dinner guests on this, the biggest cooking day of the year. Lynne Rossetto Kasper, award-winning host of The Splendid Table, will be available to answer listener questions throughout the live, two-hour program.

Hanukkah Lights 2015: A perennial NPR favorite with all new Hanukkah stories perfect for the holiday. Hosted by Susan Stamberg and Murray Horwitz.

Paul Winter 35th Annual Winter Solstice Celebration: Celebrate the Return of the Sun – and the Warming of the Earth with an exuberant Feast of Sound captured live in the majestic Cathedral of St. John the Divine.

Swing with Bill Cartwright Christmas Special: features traditional songs from the swing era.

A Blues Christmas Special: Lee Hay blends music from many talented local and well-known blues musicians.

Sunday, December 20 – 7pm

Around Cincinnati 11th Annual Christmas Special: This year’s 2-hour special opens with a reading of “Twas the Night Before Christmas” by Phil Nuxhall, followed by a mix of holiday classics, old and new, recorded for the program by local musicians including Kelly Richey & Sonny Moorman, Rick Lisak, William Hogg, Brad Myers, Jim Pelz, Bobby Mackey, Lee Stolar, Suzanne Bona & Richard Goering, and Serenity Fisher with additional performances by Darren Goodman and Stuart Holman.

Also on the show will be a reading by Rick Pender; Kelly Richey’s story about her first guitar which she received for Christmas; and music from Zak Morgan, Over the Rhine and the Cincinnati Pops.

Joy to the World – A Holiday in Pink: The internationally acclaimed “little orchestra” Pink Martini bedecks the airwaves with festive holiday songs from across the globe. From timeless classics to rarely heard gems, hear a multi-denominational, multi-cultural jubilee, overflowing with enough holiday spirit to warm your entire family. Hosted by All Things Considered’s Ari Shapiro.

Tinsel Tales: NPR Christmas Favorites: Don’t miss stories from the NPR archives that touch on the meaning of Christmas. David Sedaris, Bailey White, John Henry Faulk — these and other NPR voices, past and present, tell stories of the season.

Tuesday, December 22 –1 pm

Tinsel Tales 2: Joy, hope, and childhood memories overflow as NPR voices, past and present, tell stories of the season.

Wednesday, December 23 – 1pm

Tinsel Tales 3: Audie Cornish, Ken Harbaugh, Nina Totenberg and other voices from NPR’s past and present tell stories of the season in this hour-long special. Some tales are funny; some are touching; some are insightful or irreverent or nostalgic or surprising.

Thursday, December 24 – 1 pm

Jonathan Winters’ A Christmas Carol: Master comedian Jonathan Winters presents his own distinctive reading of Dickens’ holiday classic.

Thursday, December 24 – 7 pm

Christmas with Morehouse and Spelman Glee Clubs : One of the great holiday traditions in America, the choirs of Morehouse and Spelman Colleges — two of the most prestigious historically black institutions in the nation — get together to present a spine-tingling concert program.

Friday, December 25 – Noon  

A Christmas Celtic Sojourn 2015: Direct from the Cutler Majestic Theatre in Boston, a Celtic celebration of the season, with top-flight traditional singers and instrumentalists, and a story or two from host Brian O’Donovan.

Selected Shorts Gift Set: Three Boys and a Girl: Guest host Jane Kaczmarek presents four stories in which boys—and one girl—encounter adventures. Guest storytellers include David Hyde Pierce, Malachy McCourt, James Naughton and Thomas Gibson.

Tuesday, December 29 – 1 pm

Selected Shorts Gift Set: Peas, Pancakes, and Pretensions: Guest host Robert Sean Leonard presents food-related fictions, from a diverse group of writers. Guest storytellers include Mary Kay Place, Christina Pickles and Robert Sean Leonard.

Wednesday, December 30 – 1 pm  

Selected Shorts Gift Set: Strong Feelings: David Sedaris introduces two stories about strong feelings, one read by James Naughton and the other by Isaiah Sheffer.

Thursday, December 31 – 1 pm

Selected Shorts Gift Set: Take a Seat: Guest host Robert Sean Leonard presents four stories about sitting down to a meal, or a drink, with surprising results. Guest storytellers include Joshua Molina, Catherine O’Hara, Josh Radnor and Isaiah Sheffer.
