Apart But Together: Art During A Pandemic | Virtual Exhibition

High-school students use art to share their experiences during the COVID-19 Pandemic

VIRTUAL EXHIBITION
The Middletown Arts Center is excited to host a series of virtual exhibitions, Apart But Together: Art During a Pandemic.
The four part series, a collection of nearly 200 artworks, will be released weekly beginning June 5, 2020. The exhibition is a collaborative partnership with Middletown Arts Center and local high schools: Lakota East, Lakota West, Monroe and Middletown High Schools.
Conceived and curated by Lakota East art teacher Emily Edwards, this virtual display features artwork inspired by the COVID-19 pandemic, allowing high school students to come together as an art community.
“Our students are living through history right now.  I wanted a place where they could document this experience for themselves, but leave it open enough that they could use their own interpretations of how to record their time right now” says Edwards.
Student works are personal stories that demonstrate their own responses to the pandemic. In this collection students capture emotions, images they saw, state of mind, news events and reflections from this period of time. These exhibits will serve as a reminder of how COVID-19 impacted daily lives, documenting this unique moment in history.
The series will be displayed virtually via the Middletown Arts Center’s website, www.middletownartscenter.com, social media platforms, and YouTube channel, part one will begin Friday, June 5, parts two through four released weekly through June 26, 2020.
