Author Event: Naomi André

Naomi André, author Black Opera, provides a fresh perspective on the Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess along with bass Morris Robinson.

We’re thrilled to present University of Michigan professor Naomi André, author of the 2018 book Black Opera. Her profound study of gender, characterization, and cultural treatment of African Americans in opera provides an insightful dive into our beloved art form. Ms. André, along with Morris Robinson, Cincinnati Opera’s Artistic Advisor and Porgy in this summer’s Porgy and Bess, will offer a fresh perspective on the Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess.
