Chris Felix and Taylor Helms | Out of the Park

CHRIS FELIX’s renowned work captures the soul of baseball and the heart of its players. TAYLOR HELMS grew up in baseball, and brings that tradition of excellence to her emerging fine art career. On exhibit April 6–May 26.

CHRIS FELIX, a student of baseball history and manager/player for the Reds Hall of Fame historic baseball team, brings his lifelong love of the game to his fine art acrylic painting. In 6th grade, Felix’s pencil sketch of Johnny Bench won him a Cincinnati Reds autographed baseball in a local department store’s “Draw Your Favorite Reds Player” contest; and a few decades later, he was receiving top awards for his exhibit at the Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame. His work has been seen at prestigious galleries and venues such as Louisville Slugger Museum, National Jewish Sports Hall of Fame (New York), Cincinnati Museum Center, National Art Museum of Sport (Indianapolis), George Krevsky Gallery (San Francisco), and Convivio Center (San Diego). His commissioned work includes 10 paintings for the Topps Card Co. A graduate of the College of Art Advertising (Cincinnati), Felix’s career also includes graphic design, scenic design for major amusement parks, and toy prototype painting for Hasbro and Warner Brothers.

Introducing TAYLOR HELMS, an emerging artist whose work includes illustration, large scale murals and theatrical sets. She depicts ordinary life with extraordinary insight. A Fine Art student at the University of Cincinnati College of Design, Architecture, Art and Planning, Taylor already has a strong body of commissioned work. Her ability to produce under pressure follows her family’s tradition; Taylor comes from a legendary pro-baseball family of numerous players—its patriarch, her grandfather, Tommy Helms, former player, manager and Golden Glover, is the subject of Chris Felix’s above-featured painting.
