Jan Boone Solo Show at The Barn

Summer Colors! A selection of paintings by Jan Boone will be exhibited in the Gallery from August 4 – 28. Jan has a long history of capturing casual scenes in oils. She is interested in a wide variety of subjects, but local scenes that happen to have people in them are her favorites.

You are cordially invited to the Opening Reception on Thursday, Aug. 12 from 5pm – 7:30pm.

Color, composition, and storytelling are all a part of Jan’s work.  Tranquility and serenity, even humor, reflect from the canvas to the viewer – sometimes in contrast to the fairly bright color strokes.  The result is a softened realism that may be serene – or sparked with wry humor!  Her painting style also has been described as painterly realism, a style where mood and character are more important than detailed realism.  Many her images carry a narrative, often reflected in the work’s title.

Recurring subjects seem to fall into three categories that reflect Jan’s heart: Cincinnati landmarks, Ohio farm scenes, and river paintings.  Her paintings’ subjects typically come from everyday scenes that usually include people. Despite this variation, there is one identifying constant, Jan Boone points out:  “The tempo is always laid back.”
