Winner of the 1991 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, and called “one of Simon’s most impressive and funniest plays” by the New York Daily News, Lost in Yonkers is set in 1942 in the apartment of Grandma Kurnitz and her daughter Bella, above their candy store. As the play opens, Bella’s brother Eddie deposits his two young sons, Jay and Arty, on Grandma’s couch while he leaves to find work that will help him pay off the debt
he owes as a result of borrowing money to pay for his recently deceased wife’s care. The boys are left to contend with their grief, with their harsh Grandmother, with Bella and her secret romance, and with Eddie & Bella’s brother Louie, a small-time hoodlum in a strange new world called Yonkers.
