Join the Weston Art Gallery for the opening of artist M. Carmen Lane’s exhibition, In This House (We Forgot About the Cycle of Things).
M. Carmen Lane: In This House (We Forgot About the Cycle of Things) – In late May of 2022, M. Carmen Lane (Cleveland, OH) spent one month in Everglades National Park as both guest and relative in Kahayatle, taking images of an environment while existing in between. During that visit, Roe v. Wade was overturned. Experiencing the simultaneity of grief, loss, and relief, bearing witness while not being a part of it., Lane welcomed the life-giving rainy season while being forewarned by the settler of the hurricane’s potential for damage – a language of fear. In this exhibition Lane uses photography, text, and sound to engage with ideas of parallel process, spatiality, land and its relationship to bodily autonomy, interconnectivity, geographies of confinement, whiteness, freedom, and the teachings inherent in the natural world.
The Opening Reception is free and open to the public.
The exhibition runs from September 16 – November 12, 2023.
The Gallery Talk with M. Carmen Lane will be held Thursday, October 12 at 7 p.m.
Exhibition Sponsor: Helen and Brian Heekin
