Third Space Gallery’s first show brings together local artists on the idea of belonging – exploring identity, culture, place, and systems that shape community. The exhibition will run from March 26th to April 30th, 2022.

“On Belonging,” Third Space Gallery’s inaugural exhibition is a celebration and acknowledgment of the many ways BIPOC artists are exploring ideas and questions of belonging. This show includes perspectives from 12 local artists whose works express a diverse view of what it means to belong. From what it means to fit within an identity, culture, or place, to the effects of exclusion and marginalization. The way we understand the feeling of belonging is shaped by who we are just as much as by what we’ve seen. This feeling is often difficult to describe from the outside, but can be beautiful and warm when you’re on the inside. Belonging to a place, an identity, a community, or a culture is necessary to our human experience. When that sense of belonging is taken away, it is often painful and sows divide. “On Belonging” brings together a diverse group of artists, and celebrates each expression of belonging so that we can build a more welcoming and vibrant community.

Through this exhibition and forthcoming programs, we are highlighting experiences that often go overlooked. Third Space Gallery is founded on the goal to promote a welcome and open community for artists and creatives that are otherwise marginalized. We will also focus on fostering an open and safe environment for all artists and visitors. Our mission as a gallery is to provide a safe space for BIPOC artists and creatives, promote open discussion, and have community engagement on our own terms.

Third Space Gallery is a community space and gallery located in Camp Washington that supports and highlights BIPOC artists in Cincinnati. Their first exhibition, “On Belonging,” opens on March 26th, 2022 and includes works by Michael Coppage, Xia Zhang, Emily Hanako Momohara, Julia O. Bianco, Jesse Ly, Migiwa Orimo, Asa Featherstone, BATRES GILVIN, Stephanie Cuyubamba Kong, Anissa Lewis, and Kara Yeomans.
