Revolutionary: Being American Today

Presented by Kennedy Heights Arts Center at Kennedy Heights Arts Center, Cincinnati OH

Revolutionary: Being American Today

Eight contemporary artists explore the notion of citizenship and its varying definitions through personal and community-based stories.

Revolutionary: Being American Today seeks to unpack the definition of citizenship, what it means to be a citizen in the United States, and how this definition changes depending upon a person’s gender, race, sexuality, or immigration status. Curated by Jessica Oberdick (Louisville, KY), this exhibition features work from eight diverse regional artists. Working with themes of identity, community, and tradition, the artists present thoughtful interpretations of their environments as individuals residing in the United States.

Exhibiting artists include: Kiah Armstrong (KY), John Brooks (KY), Amanda Curreri (OH), Stephanie Cuyubamba Kong (OH), Brianna Harlan (KY), Anissa Lewis (OH), Melissa Vandenberg (KY), and Renzo Velez (WV).

While all the artists in Revolutionary share individual narratives, the combination of their work creates a dialogue that offers the audience a chance to consider their own place within American society, what citizenship means to them, and to contemplate the perspectives of others on a topic that is often misunderstood or contentious.

Join us for the Opening Reception of this powerful exhibition. Free and open to the public. Light refreshments served.
