Southwestern Ohio Symphonic Band Free Concert

The Southwestern Ohio Symphonic Band presents their next FREE concert:”The Magic of Ennio Morricone and Rogers and Hammerstein.”

A free concert will be performed by the Southwestern Ohio Symphonic Band (SOSB) under the direction of Danny Maddox Nichols, Music Director. The concert is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 5, 2023, in the Dave Finkelman Auditorium at Miami University Middletown. The concert is free and open to the public. The Dave Finkelman Auditorium is located on the Miami University Middletown campus, 4200 North University Boulevard.

The concert will start with Alfred Reed’s “A Festival Prelude” followed by David R. Holsinger’s “On A Hymnsong Of Lowell Mason.”
Sing along to “The Sound Of Music Selection for Concert Band.” This music was written by Richard Rogers with lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II and arranged by Robert Russell Bennett. The first half of the concert will conclude with a tribute and recognition of our country’s Veterans as we play E.E. Bagley’s “National Emblem March.”
Following a brief intermission, come back to your seat to Johan Halvorsen’s “Entry March Of The Boyars,” edited by Frederick Fennell.
You will be sitting on the edge of your seat with Selections from “The Untouchables” written by Ennio Morricone and arranged by Ted Parson. Selections from “The Mission” written by Ennio Morricone and arranged by Bertrand Moren, featuring “On Earth As It Is In Heaven, Gabriel’s Oboe, River” won’t disappoint.
Dmitri Shostakovich”s “Waltz No. 2 from Suite for Variety Stage Band,” arranged by James Curnow, will conclude our concert.
The Southwestern Ohio Symphonic Band is made up of community members, professional, and semi-professional musicians from as far north as Dayton Ohio and as far south as Northern Kentucky. Selected area high school students are also among band members.
