An evening of powerful film by Ya’Ke Smith, Taft Museum Duncanson Artist and associate professor of film at the University of Texas, paired with artists from Elementz. All performances feature issues about contemporary women around the theme Forward
Ya’Ke Smith, known for his unflinching and veracious style of storytelling, is a rising voice in independent cinema. His films have received world-wide acclaim, screening and winning awards at more than 90 film festivals. He currently writes and directs television content for AMS Pictures and the REELZ Network and serves as an associate professor of film at the University of Texas at Austin. Elementz is the producer of art performances from emerging artist who can amplify words and music from the local hip hop community. This concert features three women who tell relevant stories in spoken word, music and film.
