Copper Bracelet Workshop

In this class, you will be making a bracelet by twisting a copper wire and then hammering it into shape as seen in the photo. The process includes heating the copper wire to anneal it. Annealing copper makes it softer and less brittle, which allows you to bend it without breaking it. This malleability allows you to hammer and mold the copper into any shape you wish without cracking the metal. Annealing the copper may need to be completed several times during the making of the bracelet. Once hammered to the shape you desire, the twisted results is then shaped to fit your wrist. The ends of the twisted and hammered wire may need to be cut and filed to obtain the correct size of the bracelet. Once the fitting and shaping is completed, the bracelet is cleaned up and placed in tumbler with steel shot and a brightening agent to bring the copper to a polished state. After removing from the tumbler, additional polishing may be desired and can be completed with a buffing wheel in the class.
