Mozart’s The Magic Flute, set in the world of classic video games
Imagine Mozart’s The Magic Flute set in the world of classic video games! The music is Mozart’s original score with a new English libretto by Josh Shaw and E. Scott Levin, stage direction by Josh Shaw, and full orchestral accompaniment conducted by Isaac Selya.
Following the production’s premiere in Los Angeles at Pacific Opera Project, Opera Magazine wrote that it “could bring in a new generation of operagoers.” Opera Today raved, “Pacific Opera Project’s rollicking new take on The Magic Flute is as much endearing fun as a box full of puppies. The staging is also just about as relentlessly and adorably rambunctious, all the while proving to be commendably musically refined… I loved it. I think Mozart would have loved it.”
