  • Mariemont Players, Inc.
    Mariemont Players, Inc.
    Association/Club/Group;  Nonprofit;  Theatre
Mariemont Players, Inc. (MPI) is one of Cincinnati’s oldest and most successful community theaters. Our all-volunteer organization delivers high quality live theater entertainment at affordable prices. MPI stages 6 productions a year (a new play every 2 months). There’s loads of variety in our shows – from hilarious comedies to exciting musicals to challenging mysteries and thrilling dramas. We’re proud to say that our shows, actors and directors have won many awards, but more importantly our audiences keep coming back, season after season, for some of the best live theater in Greater Cincinnati. The Players were organized over 75 years ago as a church group that performed plays in Mariemont, Ohio. In 1960 we bought the historic Plainville four-room school building at the intersection of Walton Creek and Muchmore Roads, between Mariemont and Terrace Park, and turned it into our Walton Creek Theater. The original building’s cornerstone was laid in 1869, but the present solid brick building dates from 1910. We’re one of the few local community theaters with a permanent home. Parking is free next to the building. We’re also handicap accessible with an elevator to the theater auditorium and a handicap accessible restroom. No matter where you sit in our intimate auditorium, you won’t miss a line – there’s not a bad seat in the house. Join us for the excitement of opening night – with a meet-the-cast reception after the show. The curtain goes up for evening performances on Thursdays through Sundays for three weekends, including four matinees. Tickets may be purchased by phone, online or by mail. So you don’t miss a show, contact Betsy at 513-684-1236 and order a season subscription.

    Memorial Hall
Arts Council/Alliance;  Association/Club/Group;  Dance;  Gallery/Museum;  History/Heritage;  Kids/Family;  Literature/Poetry;  Special Events;  Theatre;  Traditional Arts;  Visual Arts
Memorial Hall is conveniently located in the heart of the revitalized arts district of Over-the-Rhine. This exquisite venue overlooks Washington Park, and is adjacent to Music Hall in addition to being down the street from both the School for Creative and Performing Arts and soon-to-be completed new home of the Cincinnati Shakespeare Company. Designed by Samuel Hannaford, the hall features marble staircases adorned with intricate wrought iron that lead to the 550-seat proscenium theater, dubbed the Annie W. and Elizabeth M. Anderson Theater. Exceptional acoustics, decorative murals and Tiffany chandeliers enhance this historic theater. Memorial Hall offers an elegant setting for performances and unique spaces for social and business events. Built in 1908 by the Grand Army of the Republic, the Hamilton County Memorial Building stands as a monument to the Cincinnati veterans of the Spanish-American War and the U.S. Civil War. The hall’s 550-seat theater and concert hall has beautiful Tiffany chandeliers, bas-relief plaster scrollwork and a sky ceiling mural. Clement Bamhorn, a locally prominent sculptor, carved six figures above the exterior doors, each wearing a military uniform representing forces from the Revolutionary War through the Spanish American War. Marble staircases adorned with wrought iron, flowing hallways and stenciled murals by Francis Pedretti complete this imposing example of the Beaux Arts Style. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978, Memorial Hall is located adjacent to Cincinnati’s historic Music Hall. Along with the School for the Creative and Performing Arts, these three treasured Cincinnati cultural and performing arts institutions border Washington Park dedicated in 1861. Thus establishing a world class “Arts District” located in Hamilton County.

Association/Club/Group;  Corporation;  Educational;  Festivals;  Special Events;  Theatre
OTRimprov is collaborative, simple, and joyful. We bring talented performers together to create consistently interesting, frequently funny, and always inventive scenes. OTRimprov (OTRi) began in 2010 as a collection of wayward improvisers looking for like-minded performers and a place to play in Cincinnati. After headlining shows for the Little Big Night at Know Theatre of Cincinnati, we formed our own partnership with Know Theatre’s Jackson Street Market, a resource sharing program for fledgling companies, and began producing shows independently. This continued partnership allows us to call Know’s Underground space on Jackson St. in Over-the-Rhine home. We continue to explore a variety of styles and formats, while developing a strong improv community populated with smart, engaging people and doing work that is collaborative, curious, and sometimes a little bit daring. We foster new talent through training and a welcoming atmosphere, where all performers feel inspired to explore and take risks. Members of OTRi have studied and performed with a variety of improv theatres and groups around the US, including Second City, iO, iO West, ACME Comedy Theatre, Mission IMPROVable, SmartyPants, Wit’s End, and Incredulity.
